Executive Director, Sarah Evans

Sarah Evans spent the first years of her life in rural Australia before moving to a small, predominantly low-income town in East Texas. Her awareness of- and compassion for- the diverse world around her began to take shape at an early age. After graduating with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a communications degree, she attended law school at Southern Methodist University, where she focused on environmental law. Awarded an externship with the Environmental Protection Agency's water department,  Sarah also became president of the SMU environmental law society and acted as the chief editor of the law school's news periodical.

After brief stints with respected Texas-based firms in lobbying and securities law, Sarah began to pursue her own philanthropic and environmental interests by focusing on the evolving water crisis in Africa. She co-founded Well Aware, Inc, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, whose mission is to alleviate suffering due to lack of access to clean water by providing water wells, rainwater catchment systems, and water pipelines in drought-stricken areas of East Africa. Through Well Aware, Evans has worked tirelessly to change the way aid is managed in Kenya through establishing partnerships, requiring true community involvement, and insisting on detailed accountability for all of Well Aware's stewardship and clean water projects. With a focus on women and children, this holistic approach to humanitarian aid has earned her frequent speaking invitations on topics involving nonprofit administration and the African water crisis. She also serves as director for the Austin Cosmopolitan Rotary Club.

Among other recognitions for achievement in the nonprofit sector, Evans has been a finalist in The Austin Under 40 Awards for the past two years.
