Well Aware: Where there’s a will, there’s a well!

Mission
To add capacity and access to clean, sustainable water with community education and involvement to support current and future needs in east Africa.

Our Declaration

We are aware that this suffering caused by water deprivation is unacceptable.

We are aware that the people of East Africa need us and that we have the ability to help.

We are aware that sustainable change in Africa requires more than just a water well.

We are aware that our commitment to change must include a holistic approach to aid.

We are aware that it is people like you who enable us to change and save lives in East Africa.

We are aware that you trust us to make a difference, so we will settle for nothing less than the most ethical, substantial and sustainable improvements in East Africa.

About Us
Well Aware is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization formed in 2006 to provide life-saving water for those who have none. We are a grassroots group reaching out globally for a solution to the suffering caused by water scarcity in parts of East Africa.

We have recently grown to accommodate the construction of a greater number of water systems per year, more thorough oversight and due diligence, and more sustainable and realistic solutions on a case-by-case basis for each community in which we work.

Every community in which we are privileged to work has submitted a project proposal to Well Aware, which our Board of Directors has approved. While we are unable to service every community that seeks our assistance, we also work with Kenyan individuals to improve and/or build upon their proposals for our approval. We have found that it is necessary to know that each community is thoroughly invested in helping us help them, to ensure a self-sustaining community when our initial work there is complete.

We work with carefully selected and approved nonprofit partners who add great value and sustainability to each community we serve in various other areas of needs that are specific to each area.

Our Solution and Scope

The water systems that Well Aware is now constructing will service tens of thousands of people for their lifetimes. After fully assessing each area, we determine the most practical and lasting solution, which will be a water well (borehole or hand-dug), rain water collection sytem or pipeline from a nearby natural spring.

We are well aware that our responsibility to the communities in which we work goes far beyond the driilling of a hole. Over 60% of existing water wells in Kenya are currently not working due to NGO neglect. Our project planning and budgeting includes lifetime technical support, community oversight and development consultation. In the event that Well Aware is to ever dissolve, funds for these purposes will be placed in trust for each community.

We are focusing on more impactful projects in conjunction with representatives of other local nonprofits also working in Kenya with expertise in additional community needs, so that we can make real and lasting changes in the areas we work. After we have provided water, we will implement training and aid in education, health and sanitation, community development and job training and placement.
