Irbaan School, Kenya

The Irbaan School sits on the edge of Kenya’s Maasai Mara. When assessing the project, Well Aware discovered that this rural school had the potential to hold 500-1,000 boarding students and to educate all the children in the community—if and only if the school had access to clean water. Well Aware, in partnership with The Nobelity Project and the local community, installed two new water systems for Irbaan that will provide the students with purified water for drinking, cooking, and washing, as well as electricity to provide lighting for the girls’ dorm, which will allow them to study at night for the first time. This water system now enables thousands of students to receive an education and better health.

  • Estimated population with access to new water supply: 1,500 people
  • Partner organization: The Nobelity Project
  • Completed: April 2013
  • Development impact: education, female boarders, disease control
