Kimangu, Machakos County, Kenya

Current Community Situation: The well at Kimangu has broken equipment inside the borehole. The community’s other option for water was another borehole powered by a hand pump with an extremely low yield. In 2014, through the R3 Initiative, Well Aware rehabilitated the existing well, using a solar powered pump and panels.

The Technical and Community teams have recommended the following for system and community revitalization:

  • New solar-powered pump and solar panels
  • Tap stand with water kiosk on site for distribution; additional piping to community water point
  • Additional water storage with elevation
  • Project planning, implementation supervision, and follow-up

Population: 4,000+
