The Merciful Redeemer Children's Home, located in the community of Kitengela, Kenya, provides housing, education and feeding programs for the most vulnerable children from the Nairobi slums.
The community previously had a functioning borehole, but due to its collapsed in 2019, they either have to buy their water, which is very expensive, or rely on rainwater, which can be unpredictable and potentially dangerous if consumed untreated. Due to the unreliable source of clean water, the community is not able to farm a healthy amount of crops, and livestock regularly die from dehydration and starvation.
Since the community previously had a functioning borehole, Well Aware proposed a water system rehabilitation, which will convert the non-functioning borehole to an appropriately-sized solar-powered submersible pump system that will maximize water availability for the children.
Well Aware is projected to complete this project in 2021.
