Mbalawala once had a water well that was powered by a generator, and the generator broke down and was unrepairable. Desperate for access to water, the community pulled out the pump and placed a semi-functional handpump in the borehole. While they had some water from this solution, the breakage in the infrastructure left the well open to run-off, and the water became very contaminated with coliform, making many of the children very sick.
Well Beyond has designed a rehabilitation project that will re-equip Mbalawala’s system to ensure reliable, clean water for the community to thrive.
