The Mutaki school was only one classroom when Well Aware originally worked with education partner, Nobelity Project, to add two classrooms and provide rainwater catchment and storage for the 100 children who would attend. Well Aware completed the first rainwater catchment system in 2012, and returned in 2014 to complete an expansion project.
Due to water scarcity in the Kooi region, more children have been traveling to the Mutaki school to be educated and have clean water to drink. Well Aware expanded the water system there to accommodate many more children. We estimate that we can educate an additional 500-1000 children with the new water system addition.
Since the population has drastically increased the first project in 2012, Well Aware returned in 2016 to complete a second expansion project in Mutaki.
Population at school: 500+
Completion Date: 2012; expanded in 2014; second expansion in 2016
