The community of Tigithi in Kenya is located near and supported by the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This secondary boys school supports about 500 students within the larger community of 1,200.
The Well Aware team was originally called in by the community to extend an existing pipeline, but upon technical evaluation of the project, the team concluded an entirely new borehole would be needed. This decision was reached in part by the observation of the shallow depth of the current borehole, and its location to a nearby latrine causing contamination of the drinking water.
In response to the original request by the community, the new borehole will support the entire community, including the boys school.
This project was completed in 2021. Spectrum Brands, a long time partner of Well Aware, funded this project through their Shower Strike fundraising efforts.
Project Type: New Drill
Population Impacted: ~1,200, including a school population of 500.
