Well Aware’s Inaugural H2gO Challenge

50 miles in her shoes | April 1-30, 2025

See Sponsor Opportunities

We're traveling 50 miles during the month of April, to raise funds and transform the lives of 12,500 people in need of clean water in East Africa.

What is Well Aware’s H2gO Challenge?

The Well Aware H2gO Challenge is a 4-week peer-to-peer fundraising journey that brings clean water and sanitation to communities across Kenya while immersing participants in the daily obligation most women in rural Kenya face every single day – traveling for water.

Together, we’ll virtually travel to six partner communities, immersing ourselves in their stories, challenges, and triumphs. Along the way, every step you take and every dollar you raise will help transform lives through sustainable access to clean water.

Over the past 16 years, our annual peer-to-peer event has raised almost $3 million to build water projects in East Africa, providing 245,000 people with clean water for life.

Registration opening February 10th, 2025.

Why focus on women?

In East Africa, the Water Crisis disproportionately affects women and girls and is the main obstacle standing in the way of girls’ empowerment. In 8 out of 10 households without piped water, women and girls are responsible for collecting water (WHO & UNICEF). This responsibility keeps them out of school, denies them the opportunity for education, and limits their future prospects.

Access to clean water has the potential to change everything for girls. With water close to home, girls no longer have to choose between education and survival. They can stay in school, develop their talents, pursue their passions, and work toward the futures they envision – the futures they deserve.

By securing access to reliable, clean water, we are not only protecting girls’ health, but also promoting gender equality. Educated girls are more likely to become leaders in their communities, mothers who support the education of their children, and entrepreneurs who lift their families out of poverty. Water is a foundational piece of this puzzle.

Did you know that for each additional year a Kenyan girl is in school her future income increases by 12%?
