More Water Projects This Year Than Ever Before
2021 has already been a year of growth and change.
Planning around ever-evolving variables – travel restrictions, covid numbers, vaccine roll-outs, and figuring out who we got to hug and when – proved difficult. But, with clean water needs as our steadfast focus, and since we are on a team of rockstars, our mission is now stronger than ever and 2021 will be our best year yet.
We’re thrilled to let you know that our projects work is back on track. But it really never stopped. In 2020, while we were not able to implement any new projects, we launched our digital community training program, actively worked on 18 water systems, addressed all maintenance needs, conducted site visits for possible new projects, and planned for future implementations as soon as the work could resume as normal again. And, it has. As a matter of fact, we expect to implement more new water systems this year than in any year past.
Already in 2021, we have actively worked on 18 projects.
18 in 5 months alone. This includes:
- 2 new water well drills at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy for an all-girls secondary school and an all-boys secondary school
- 1 new rainwater catchment system at the largest primary school in Kenya with more than 3000 students
- Past system expansions and increased storage capacities due to school and community growth
- Past system maintenance
- Site visits for upcoming and future projects
- WASH training and Impact Measurement Surveying
- …and so much more
In addition to all of these active projects in Kenya and Tanzania, our technical experts have been hard at work reviewing hydrogeological surveys, designing rainwater catchment and purification systems, choosing pumps for new wells, and planning pipelines and water access points.
This summer, our team heads back to Kenya to oversee three new well drills and complete even more future project site visits. You can read more about a couple of these upcoming projects here.
2020 was a very difficult year. But the challenging times taught us a lot about our resilience, our innovativeness, and our commitment to this cause. It also allowed our teams to prepare for even more projects than ever – projects that are only possible because of you. You stood with us as a global pandemic engulfed our lives and devastated our hearts. You stood with us as we pivoted and launched new programs and fundraisers. And you proved that the foundation of who and what we are as an organization is solid as a rock and here to stay as long as we are needed.
Thank you for being such an integral part of this important work, and we look forward to sharing more exciting updates as the year moves forward.
With deep gratitude,
