Well Aware Celebrates 12 Years of Clean Water Impact at 2021 Winter Waterland Gala

Spirits were high on Thursday, December 2nd, at Well Aware’s first Winter Waterland Gala since the onset of the pandemic in 2020. Two hundred dedicated Well Aware supporters gathered at the historic Driskill Hotel for the joyful and inspiring celebration of Well Aware’s work to fund and implement life-saving water systems in East Africa. Upon arriving at the luxurious downtown venue, guests were treated to cocktails, gourmet eats, and a program jam-packed with uplifting stories and memorable moments. Before dinner, attendees had the opportunity to experience drilling one of Well Aware’s water projects in Tanzania through virtual reality footage courtesy of Hearty Films. After a delicious three-course meal, Well Aware honored three inspiring individuals–Water for South Sudan founder Salva Dut, Terry Kowalicki of Spectrum Brands, and football player Kahlil Mckenzie–with Global Impact Awards for their work to end the water crisis. Well Aware awarded Kahlil Mckenzie the first-ever Geoffrey S. Ryder Ambassador of the Year Award in honor of long-time board member and friend Geoffrey Ryder, who passed away in August of 2021. Well Aware’s entire Austin-based team, led by founder Sarah Evans and board members Cornell Woolridge and Ashley Patek, worked together to make the Gala a rousing success–raising enough funds to bring clean water to more than 19,000 people in 2022.
