Honoring a Life Lost Too Soon

On July 28th, Greg Godkin is climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. What started as a personal challenge and goal has become something much deeper.
A little girl, the daughter of two longtime members of the Well Aware family, recently lost her life in the devastating Texas floods. She was a natural leader. She loved animals and all living things. She made everyone feel welcome, always had a smile on her face, and brought joy wherever she went.
When Greg, the father of a young daughter, learned of her passing, he was immediately determined to do something to honor her. He is now dedicating his climb to her, and has set a goal to fund an entire clean water project through Well Aware for a community in East Africa in her name. This project will literally save the lives of those it will serve, including babies and young children.
With your support, once Greg reaches his $65,000 goal, after the new water well is completed and fresh, clean water is flowing, a permanent sign with her name will be affixed to the structure, thereby continuing her legacy of hope and helping others for generations.
“Climbing Kilimanjaro is a personal challenge, but this project gives it meaning. Thank you for helping me turn this climb into something much bigger.” – Greg Godkin
Greg’s climb isn’t just about reaching the summit; it’s about creating something beautiful in her name. Through this fundraiser, we have the chance to honor a young girl who truly made the world better while she was here.
Your gift will help us reach our $65,000 goal and carry forward the spirit of a child who was radiant, inclusive, and endlessly kind.
There are no words for a loss like this. But together, we can create something meaningful. We can show her family that her light is still shining—just in a different part of the world.
Well Aware is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with headquarters in Austin, Texas. They fund and implement lasting clean water systems to drive development and empower communities in East Africa.
Well Aware believes their responsibility to their partner communities goes far beyond the drilling of a hole. Nearly 50% of water projects in Africa fail, often within the first year. 100% of Well Aware’s water systems work and they last because of realistic, responsible planning and collaboration. Their partner communities are motivated, organized, and prepared communities who need only sustainable clean water to kick-start their success. That’s why Well Aware adapts each project according to the community’s specific needs and collaborates with local leaders to ensure the water system’s long-term success.
“I’m grateful for your support. It is an honor to be able to give back to the local community where my week-long hike will occur and do all of this in honor of a young life lost too soon.” – Greg Godkin
