Loormeuti Primary: A Fresh Start
Between Amboseli National Park and the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, Loormeuti Primary School serves 700 students in rural Kajiado County, Kenya — and for the 4,500 residents of the surrounding community, it has always been at the heart of daily life. In 2024, it became something even more central: home to a brand-new community well.
The solar-powered deep borehole — 120 meters down, yielding 24 cubic meters of clean water per hour, with no treatment required — now supplies the school, a community water kiosk, and a dedicated livestock trough. A 10,000-liter storage tank sits atop a 10-meter elevated structure, keeping water flowing steadily through the school day and beyond.
For Linus, a 13-year-old 8th grader who wants to be an architect someday, the change has been tangible. He feels healthier and more focused in class — and he’s particularly excited that the school can now plant trees on campus, making it greener and more inspiring.
"Water is life," he says, with the confidence of someone who's seen exactly what that means.
The Ripple Effects extend well beyond the classroom. The school’s government feeding program — which had struggled to run consistently without a reliable water supply — now operates without interruption, meaning 700 students show up and stay through the day, nourished. Livestock are being revitalized, strengthening the economic foundation families depend on. And with improved sanitation and hygiene across the campus, the school is positioned to expand and welcome even more students in the years ahead.
Favour, 12, is already thinking about that future. The 7th grader dreams of becoming a teacher — and with clean water on campus, she’s fully present to work toward it. She no longer misses class for water-related chores, and each afternoon she brings clean water home to share with her family.
“Having safe water means having the chance to pursue my dreams,” she says, “and inspire others to do the same.”
A Community Water Committee was established and trained in management and ongoing maintenance by our team, with the community onboarded onto the Well Beyond App for maintenance and support. Our 100% success rate is, partially, made possible by this model, because our partner communities are exactly that — partners.
Your generosity gave Loormeuti something priceless: the clean water behind a true fresh start.
