The Well Beyond App by Well Aware Receives Coveted Anthem Award
AUSTIN, TX, January 31, 2024 – Well Aware, an international nonprofit, announced today that the Well Beyond App has been named Best Use of Technology in the Responsible Technology Category in the 3rd Annual Anthem Awards.
This year’s Anthem Award Winners were selected from a pool of over 2,000 submissions from 44 countries by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS). Anthem judges are intellectually diverse leaders from across the impact industry with expertise that spans across the Anthem cause areas.
The Well Beyond App by Well Aware is the first and only patent-pending diagnostics and maintenance app developed to ensure long-term success for water projects. The app was created because despite thousands of nonprofits working to provide clean water in Africa, 60% of water wells fail.
“The Anthem Awards were born out of the desire to amplify and celebrate the voices that are creating sustainable change and to inspire others to take action,” said Patricia McLoughlin, Anthem Awards General Manager. “In a year where so much is at stake, it is incredibly important to recognize impact work and celebrate the progress happening globally. Congratulations to all of this year’s Winners.”
The app was designed for community members to maintain and diagnose water systems, allowing them to solve issues on their own. In addition to keeping the wells up and running indefinitely, the tool also aggregates valuable data on how the water systems are used, providing indicators of community-led success.
In addition to fixing and maintaining water wells, the Well Beyond app also deploys interactive WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) trainings, one of which provides information and support for feminine hygiene and reproductive health. A traditionally taboo topic, women can now take ownership of their own health without barriers.
“We are incredibly honored to have been named an Anthem award winner in the Responsible Technology category,” said Sarah Evans, founder of Well Aware. “We created the Well Beyond app to better serve the communities that we provide clean water for in East Africa and it is humbling to see our work recognized. The power of technology is immense, and we are fortunate to be able to use it as a tool to keep water systems up and running for years to come.”
By amplifying the voices that spark global change, the Anthem Awards are defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to take action in their communities. A portion of program revenue is allocated to the Anthem Award’s grant program, The Anthem Fund. This year the Anthem Fund partnered with the Billion Oyster Project to support their work to restore and conserve New York’s waterways.
